1. First off, who are you and what genre of music do you make?
Hello! My name is Yusuke and I am the guitarist in Night Lights. As a band, we try to make music that inspires and makes people feel butterflies under the genre of Indie/Alternative Pop Rock. We love to write about topics that are often avoided about life and try to present it in a digestible uplifting sound. -Yusuke
2. If you had to describe your music with a color, what would it be?
A bright baby blue. We are happy indie music, however, there’s a sad undertone to the lyrics that have an optimistic outlook. -Mau
3. What’s the biggest struggle you have when it comes to creating?
I think not shooting down some of my initial ideas. It’s cliche, but I really think there’s truth to creators being their harshest critic. I suck… deal with it. -Mau
4. If you could play any show in the world, what would it be?
Fist place that come to mind is Wembley Stadium in London. Muse recorded a live DVD there in 2007. Blew my minds watching that. Two consecutive days of sold out shows with 90 000 people each show. Playing for a crowd like that would be something else. -Dag
5. What do you consider your biggest musical success?
I think our biggest musical success is yet to come. Though when we succeed in enveloping an emotion within a song, personally that’s when I feel the most musical success. As I feel that these days with technology, anyone can write or produce a beat/song. Though not all of them are able to capture and frame an emotional state. -Yusuke
6. What inspired you to start making music?
I had a really bad case of ADHD. Music made me feel understood. Helped me feel like I could express myself. -Mau
7. If you could hear any person living or dead sing to you, who would it be?
Probably Louis Armstrong or someone like that. -Dag
8. Who, aside from any band or musician, is your biggest influence?
I’m gonna go with Jesus. He’s a pretty remarkable man. -Dag
9. What’s your favorite book?
I wish I read more books. Besides the topic but I recently discovered audiobooks, which will help with that. Hard to pick a favorite so gonna just go with the most recent book I read/listened to, Swipe Right by Levi Lusko. -Dag
10. What do you like to do other than music?
I would say that my life is 90% spent on music but other than spending time with my friends, I love to cook, drink coffee, and watch stand up. I think there are so much that music has in common with those things and I enjoy the process of relating them. -Yusuke
11. Who is your favorite musical artist?
Radiohead has been the most consistent over the years. But i think currently, RY X is among my favorites. I feel like its an unfair question. there are so many. I feel like I would need to subdivide them in to genres or something. -Mau
12. What’s one piece of advice you have for young musicians?
For me, the reasons I have been able to keep pursuing a musical career for this long and have not given up is that I love everything about it. I love every process of music. I love learning, practicing, writing, playing, the business side, and even trying to make a living with it whiles supporting my projects. One advice from me would be to love the process. -Yusuke
13. Lastly, what’s your lucky number?
I don’t think I ever chose one. I love number 3 though. So 3! -Mau
