Shorelines Interview

1. First off, who are you and what genre of music do you make?

Hi! We are Shorelines, and we’re a dual-vocalist pop/punk band from Brisbane!

2. If you had to describe your music with a color, what would it be?

Harry: I think I’d have to say white… because white is made up of every colour!

Dylan: I would probably have to say grey, the music I write is somewhere in between light and dark.

Sean: Pink & Teal, our New Heights colours.

Shaman: Definitely blue, it’s the colour of the ocean and it’s so fresh.

3. What’s the biggest struggle you have when it comes to creating?

Harry: For me, coming up with instrumental parts and progressions isn’t usually a problem, but I find it easy to get stuck using the same words between songs.

Dylan: The number #1 thing I struggle with is finding the time to sit down and write a song

Sean: Writing songs about different topics, I generally write about experience so that just means I need to experience some new things

Shaman: Sometimes I can write a song in one sitting but I often get to a certain point where I hate everything I try and I have to leave the song and come back to it later.

4. If you could play any show in the world, what would it be?

Harry: In terms of shows, I’d love to play a US warped tour, but if we are talking about venues, I’d do anything to play Wembley Stadium in England.

Dylan: Warped Tour is my near future goal, and I would have to say that Wembley Stadium is my life goal.

Sean: US Warped tour would be the dream!

Shaman: US warped tour or Reading Festival would be awesome!

5. What do you consider your biggest musical success?

As a band, we haven’t been around for very long, so hopefully, there’s much more to come for us, but I think releasing our debut EP “New Heights” is right up there for each of us.

6. What inspired you to start making music?

We all love the energy and the feelings that people, including ourselves, get from music, and when we started jamming together it just worked really well and we had so much fun! All of the other things that are part of being a band are great too and we enjoy putting as much time as we can into sharing what we do with our fans!

7. If you could hear any person living or dead sing to you, who would it be?

Harry: Definitely Chuck Berry, that guy is a legend. RIP Chuck ❤

Dylan: It would either have to be Dallas Green, Jim Morrison or Alex Gaskarth. Sing me to sleep any night boys.

Sean: Brendon Urie, because he is beautiful.

Shaman: I would love for Dallas Green to sing me to sleep.

8. Who, aside from any band or musician, is your biggest influence?

Harry: My family for sure, 1,000%, and probably John F. Kennedy… he was rad!

Dylan: My father. And I can’t forget Aussie legends Steve Irwin and Russell Coight.

Sean: My Family, My Friends, and my work crew

Shaman: My parents! They both love music and set me on the path I am now, their support is endless.

9. What’s your favorite book?

Harry: Probably One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Dylan: Every Harry Potter book or, Franklin and The Magic Show

Sean: 4 hour work week – I love reading about business and lifestyle.

Shaman: Where the Wild Things Are. Do picture books count?

10. What do you like to do other than music?

Harry: I really enjoy all things audio, but I’m trying to learn more about the visual creative world too. I also love pizza, my dogs and sleeping.

Dylan: I love to go camping, spending time around animals and nature and the occasional fishing trip. Also spending time with my pals with some fresh frothies is always a treat.

Sean: Rock Climbing, experiencing new restaurants and drinking lots of beers.

Shaman: I’m a film student I’m really into filmmaking, I also love watching movies.

11. Who is your favorite musical artist?

Harry: Out of all the artists ever, I would honestly have to say John Mayer is my all time favourite.

Dylan: That one is easy, Billie Joe Armstrong, every time.

Sean: Brendon Urie – Panic! At The Disco.

Shaman: City & Colour. Everything Dallas Green does is gold.

12. What’s one piece of advice you have for young musicians?

Just have fun! Work hard and enjoy what you are doing! If you’re not getting anything out of it then what’s the point? Also get out there and interact as much as you can, you’ll make some incredible friends and contacts along the way too.

13. Lastly, what’s your lucky number?

Harry: 8 – Because digital number 8 can fit any other number in it.

Dylan: 7, because 7 8 9.

Sean: 1.

Shaman: 14.
